Rescue Story 02/02/2014
Second Time SafetyNet Service Has Assisted Sheriff’s Office in Less Than Three Weeks
The SafetyNet Tracking service helped deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office locate another missing person with a cognitive condition. In this case, an 84-year-old man was reported missing from his Lutz, Florida home on Sunday, February 2. Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the missing person’s home and began following the signal emitting from the subject’s SafetyNet bracelet. He was located 12 minutes later, 0.3 miles away from his home in a heavily wooded area, which is surrounded by water. He had superficial cuts on his head and leg and was treated by EMS at the scene.
It was the second time in less than three weeks that the SafetyNet service has assisted Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies in locating a missing person. On January 14, a 40-year-old man with dementia wandered away from his home on Lexington Road in Brandon. He was found – after having walked 1.1 miles– only 37 minutes after deputies from the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office arrived on scene and began following the signal emitting from the subject’s SafetyNet bracelet.
